What is Version History?

Version History stores checkpoints of the whole drawing inside its SVG file. A checkpoint is created when changed work is saved, and you can also make one yourself. The history travels with the file when you save it to your device, browser or cloud storage.

Use Version History

Open the history

Click the Version History icon at the far right of the bottom panel.

Choose a checkpoint

The newest appears first. Use its thumbnail, version number, time and details to recognise it.

Restore and confirm

Restore replaces the canvas with that checkpoint. School Draw first keeps the current drawing as a “Before restore backup”.

History Controls

Save Version

Create a checkpoint now before experimenting or making a major edit.

Restore

Return the whole drawing to the selected checkpoint after confirmation.

Delete

Permanently remove an unneeded checkpoint after confirmation.

Ten checkpoints

School Draw keeps up to ten versions; when full, the oldest is removed first.

Undo or Version History?

Undo reverses recent individual actions during this session. Version History restores a saved stage of the entire drawing and remains in the SVG file.

Good to Know

• Versions make the SVG file larger because each checkpoint contains the complete drawing.

• Very large drawings may be unable to add another checkpoint.

• Deleting a checkpoint cannot be undone.

Common Questions

Why is the history empty after starting a new drawing?

History belongs to a particular drawing. Open its saved SVG to load the versions stored inside it.

Why did saving not create another identical version?

School Draw avoids duplicate checkpoints when the drawing has not changed.

Can Undo reverse a restore?

No. Use the automatically created “Before restore backup” in Version History to return to the drawing you had before restoring.
